WEEKLY REFLECTION - FOURTH SEMESTER

16/11/16-18/11/16
As per B.Ed. curriculum, our fourth semester school internship program for thirty days started today. I got class 9 for teaching. The concerned teacher assigned me to take 1st chapter of the 4th unit. Dawn of hope. I covered first 3 lesson templates of the chapter using both charts and power point presentation. Power point presentation was more effective than the other two classes. Pupils were very eager to learn the lesson and they showed great interest.
21/11/16-25/11/16
I am lesson was glad to see that they responded well, when I asked questions from the previous portion. They were very curious to know the rest of the story. This increased their interest to learn the lesson and they interacted well with the teacher.  When I checked their notebooks, I found some of the books were incomplete and I warned them strictly to complete it.
28/11/16-2/12/16
In this week I completed The Jungle Air crash and started a new poem Another Chance. They felt sympathy for Julian at the end of the story by hearing her pathetic situation. All textual activities were completed. I felt a satisfaction after completing the lesson. The introductory part of the poem Another Chance was a power point presentation. The picture which I showed generated ideas and they shared their view before the class. The poem will help them overcome difficulties in their future life.
3/1/17-6/1/17
After the x'mas vacation I started a new chapter The Last Leaf by O.Henry. I tried to evoke the power of hope among them through this chapter. I completed first 4 lesson templates in this week. Daily I checked their knowledge about the previous class. Most of the students answered the questions clearly. I found that some student lacked the confidence to answer in English.
9/1/17- 13/1/17
I got 4 class this week and completed next 4 lesson templates of The Last Leaf. For the better understanding of this lesson I used sufficient teaching aids. In this week I conducted a diagnostic test in a substitutions period. In order to diagnose their area of difficulties.
16/1/17-20/1/17
In this week I completed The Last Leaf and entered into a new chapter Nandita Das' Newtons Law. After completing The Last Leaf I think they understood the power of hope, value of friendship, trust, sacrifice etc. Newton's Law is a humorous account of Nanditha Das' awful childhood experience. Pupils enjoyed the class because of the humorous elements in it.
23/1/17-28/1/17
In this week I started the second chapter of the next unit Enlightening minds. I took only the first three paragraphs of this chapter because of the lack of time and also I have to take three models of teaching after this classes. The first model I took was Concept attainment model, and I taught affixes using this model. Adjectives were taught using Advance organizer model. For the Role Play Model I took the chapter The Making of a Scientist. The classes were very interesting and I think it was more beneficiary than normal classes. In this week we celebrated Republic Day to inculcate national spirit and respect for the country in the students.
30/1/17-31/1/17

I completed all the intended lesson templates and also conducted an achievement test based on the chapter The Last Leaf and Another chance. This week teaching practice section came to an end. We expressed our sincere gratitude to the Head master and other teachers for their support and cooperation.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT

INTRODUCTION
The term ‘disaster’ meaning, ‘the bad star’ in Latin, is defined as an impact of a natural or manmade hazard that causes human suffering or creates human needs that alleviate without assistance. The word root is from astrology and implies that when the stars are in a bad position, a bad news or event is about to happen.
Man is concurring an environment for fulfilling his need, similarly he knows that it causes decay in natural resources. Though he knows it, he is avoiding the importance of nature in his life. Due to lack of natural resources, there arise global warming. We can see the effect of global warming on living things. Hence natural and manmade hazards are appearing as challenges.
Good environment education, like various awareness classes for protecting nature, must lead students out and on from their immediate perceptions and to a wider understanding. It must develop their capacity. Pupils must learn about natural phenomena in order to understand complex environmental matters.
There are a lot of environmental problems which are related to natural disasters and manmade disasters like earthquake, floods, drought, tsunami etc. Students should know that how and why these hazards appear; its impact and its preventive and mitigation measures.
